Mazzarri demands perfect Napoli

Napoli boss Walter Mazzarri insists his side can’t afford to make any errors against Manchester City on Tuesday.

The Azzurri will host the Premiership giants at the San Paolo in a game that they really need to win to put themselves in a position to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League.

“We need to start again from our second half performance against Lazio,” the tactician stated on Monday afternoon after the 0-0 on Saturday.

“We want to put in a great performance in the knowledge that we’ll need to be perfect. We’ll take to the pitch with that in mind.

“Manchester City are going through a golden moment, but we know what we have to do and we can cause them harm.

“There will be no calculations – we just want to win.”

Napoli collected a 1-1 draw at Manchester in their first meeting this term, but City have improved since that tie.

“We have the advantage of having played against them already and their style of play hasn’t changed very much, but they have improved their results and they now have more self-belief,” Mazzarri added.

“There will probably be five players in the team who didn’t play against Newcastle. They rotate their team and are first in the League…

“Mario Balotelli didn’t play in the first game, but Carlos Tevez did. This underlined their strength. Their squad is so important that it is difficult to pick one player above another.

“Individuals are always important, but it is how you play as a team which makes the difference. My players knows what they have to do.”

On an economical level there is no contest between the two sides, but the former Sampdoria man is remaining optimistic.

“Clubs are companies these days and City are at the spending levels of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Chelsea.

“On a sporting level, if you do things correctly, then anything can happen.  On the pitch we are here to compete and cause sides of this level problems.”

With two games to go, Bayern Munich top the group with 10 points, City have seven, Napoli five and Villarreal have zero.
