De Laurentiis pledges Napoli buys

Aurelio De Laurentiis hailed the Napoli fans after the victory over Manchester City and pledged to make big new signings.

“We have never denied our Coach anything,” the President told Radio Marte when asked if there would be fresh investments.

“We will without doubt do what needs to be done. However, talking about new buys now might be offending the hard work of a group of professionals, of Walter Mazzarri, the director of sport and the lads who stepped on to the field yesterday.

“Champions must be raised in house, but we must also continue searching for new ones. In order to reach the top, you have to accept there will be some mistakes and patiently continue cultivating the dream of being among the big boys.”

The 2-1 win over Manchester City means Napoli have an excellent chance of progressing to the Champions League knockouts.

“Our fans were extraordinary and it was their night, so I thank them all. They have always supported us, even in Serie C. They’re the real leaders of this Napoli, a club that has finally returned among the top tier.”

However, De Laurentiis also warned the job is not complete yet, as they must beat Villarreal, or at least match Manchester City’s result against Bayern Munich, to be sure of qualification.

“Let’s keep our feet on the ground, as we haven’t achieved anything yet. I’d also remind the fans it is important to support the side no matter what happens.”
