Ezequiel Lavezzi has insisted that his Napoli side can still improve after reaching the last 16 of the Champions League.
The Azzurri sealed their place amongst Europe’s elite clubs after beating Villarreal 2-0 in Spain on Wednesday.
They thus qualified for the knock-out stages, along with Bayern Munich, after relegating Manchester City to the Europa League.
“I want to thank all of my teammates for their great effort,” the Argentine attacker said on Thursday. “Without losing our humbleness, we can become a great side.”
Napoli’s rise over the last six years has been extraordinary. After all, the Azzurri were playing in Serie C as recently as 2005-06.
They finished third in Serie A last season – their highest placing since winning the Italian championship in 1989-90.
