Serse Cosmi was proud of the players on his Lecce debut and felt “the result was distant from the reality” of what happened against Lazio.
The Salentini had taken the lead and wasted numerous chances, eventually falling 3-2 on home turf.
“We put in a great performance, not just in terms of motivation, but also tactical and technical levels,” said Cosmi, who replaced Eusebio Di Francesco last week.
“The result was distant from the reality of what everyone saw on the pitch. It is our duty to give our all out of respect for the fans.
“I hope people realise our game was not exclusively based on grit and determination, as we also played some excellent football.
“We must continue this way, hopefully with a few less mistakes while we’re there.”
