Genoa ‘keeper Sebastien Frey has urged former Fiorentina teammate Alberto Gilardino to join him at Marassi.
The port club are understood to be on the verge of signing the Italian international striker in an €8m deal.
“I hope that Gilardino joins us,” the Frenchman told Sky Sport Italia. “I’m sure that he would do well here and be able to demonstrate his worth as a player.
“We would take a step up in quality with Gilardino.
“When I signed for Genoa I did so because there is an important project here. Getting Alberto would be another important sign.”
Frey was shown the door by the Viola over the summer, but he’s quickly settled into life with the Rossoblu.
“Why should Gila accept the move? The support of the fans, his own motivation to come here and the fish – you eat well in this city…”
