'Gila to Juve? It's science fiction'

Fiorentina patron Andrea Della Valle has rubbished reports suggesting he will let Alberto Gilardino leave in the near future.

The Italy international has been linked with a move to Juventus in recent weeks after a change of agent.

La Gazzetta dello Sport understands the Old Lady would be prepared to offer Amauri in exchange for Gilardino.

Asked about the prospect of such a deal at Fiorentina's Christmas party, Della Valle said: "It's science fiction. Alberto is staying and every one of us expected to see the real Juan Manuel Vargas again.

"Someone will leave, but they will be replaced. If there are players within the team who lack motivation, I hope we won't see them again after January.

"We will make new investment with the money from the sales together with a little [financial] sacrifice on our part.

"People worthy of Fiorentina will arrive," he concluded.
