Rossi: 'Fiorentina without strikers'

Delio Rossi has warned Fiorentina they need to bring in reinforcements, as he visits Novara without a single centre-forward in the squad and a new system.

The Viola have sold Alberto Gilardino to Genoa, while Santiago Silva and Khouma Babacar are unavailable, so ‘support’ forwards Adem Ljajic and Stevan Jovetic must form a partnership.

“Gilardino made his choice,” said Rossi. “The group of strikers needs to be reinforced and the club is moving on this issue.

“Fiorentina require a striker who is useful for the side, as there’s no point just bringing someone in to make up the numbers. It’s not an easy task, which is why this is taking a while.

“Ljajic is an important player and he is very young, so can have some ups and downs. When the chance comes along, though, he has to take it. It’s up to him now to make the most of this opportunity.

“We have three strong central defenders, many midfielders and wide men, so we tested out the 3-5-2 system in training. Juan Manuel Vargas can play wide and it’s the right role for him. We hope it will go well.”

Fiorentina have been training on their artificial turf this week to prepare for the trip to Novara’s Stadio Piola.

“Novara are a tough team to face and it won’t be easy tomorrow,” continued the Coach. “Every game is decisive in its own way and Novara certainly represents a turning point in our season.

“I am fully aware our position in the table is not looking good. We’re all up for discussion and cannot live on memories alone. Every day we must work hard to improve.

“I have positive sensations, though we have to work a great deal, above all psychologically.”

Fiorentina squad: Behrami, Boruc, Camporese, Cassani, Cerci, De Silvestri, Gamberini, Jovetic, Kharja, Lazzari, Ljajic, Montolivo, Munari, Nastasic, Natali, Neto, Pasqual, Pazzagli, Romulo, Salifu, Vargas
