Sampdoria have confirmed “it is perhaps the right time for us to separate” from Angelo Palombo.
The midfielder and captain had opted to remain even after the club was relegated to Serie B, but has struggled for form.
“The Garrone family is very tied to Palombo, but he must make a choice for his future and it is perhaps the right time for us to separate,” said Vice-President Edoardo Garrone.
“It could be good for everyone, both for Sampdoria and the player.”
Palermo appear to have pulled out of the negotiations, so Fiorentina are now the hot favourites to sign the Italian international.
