Milan injury crisis intensifies

Milan have a decimated squad for Sunday’s trip to Novara, but new buys Djamel Mesbah and Alexander Merkel are thrown straight into the fray.

The Rossoneri have both Kevin-Prince Boateng and Alessandro Nesta suspended on top of an injury crisis.

Ruled out for this game are Gianluca Zambrotta, Christian Abbiati, Alexandre Pato, Alberto Aquilani, Mario Yepes, Mathieu Flamini, Antonio Cassano and Gennaro Gattuso.

It means Coach Massimiliano Allegri has only 19 players at his disposal to face Novara, with Mesbah likely to be given his debut just days after the transfer from Lecce.

Merkel was recalled on loan from Genoa last week and already played against Novara in the 2-1 extra time Coppa Italia victory on Wednesday evening.

Milan squad:Amelia, Roma, Abate, Antonini, Bonera, Mesbah, Mexes, Thiago Silva, Ely, Ambrosini, Emanuelson, Merkel, Nocerino, Seedorf, Van Bommel, El Shaarawy, Ibrahimovic, Inzaghi, Robinho
