Milan announced this evening that Alexander Merkel will be out for at least eight weeks after tests showed a torn knee ligament.
The midfielder was recalled from a loan at Genoa in order to help calm the injury crisis, but has instead joined the long-term absentee list.
This evening the official Rossoneri website confirmed tests had shown a lesion to the collateral medial ligament in his right knee.
Merkel will continue physiotherapy rather than undergo surgery and he is expected to be out “for around eight weeks, save for complications.”
Milan are already without Kevin-Prince Boateng, Alberto Aquilani, Gennaro Gattuso, Mathieu Flamini, Antonio Cassano, Alexandre Pato and Mario Yepes.
