Catania have learned they will be without Alessandro Potenza for the rest of the season after he damaged knee ligaments.
The defender underwent tests that showed a lesion to the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
Surgery will be necessary and the operation has been set for Monday, while he is expected to be out of action for around six months.
Potenza picked up the injury during this week’s 25-minute match against Roma.
The original game was rained off at the 65th minute on January 14 and under Serie A rules resumed from where it left off.
