Gennaro Gattuso accepts that Milan were right to leave him out of their Champions League squad.
The midfielder was omitted from the UEFA list given that he’s missed most of the season because of an eye injury.
“I was disappointed that I wasn’t included, but I would have made the same decision,” he told the Corriere della Sera. “I’m suffering because I can’t play.”
The veteran, 34, hasn’t featured since the opening game of the season against Lazio due to an optic nerve issue that needs time to heal.
Even if Gattuso returns to full fitness by the end of the season and Milan progress in Europe, he won’t be eligible for any Champions League ties for the remainder of the campaign.
