FIGC President Giancarlo Abete notes Italy kept their promise to return to Genoa after the chaotic scenes against Serbia.
The Azzurri are set to face USA in tonight’s international friendly, but the last time they played at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris was on October 12 2010.
That Euro 2012 qualifier was abandoned after only a few minutes after Serbian hooligans smashed in the Plexiglas wall and hurled objects on to the pitch, and then rioted into the night.
“We had promised to come back to Genoa,” said Abete. “The promise was kept and that is something that makes us happy.
“It is going to be an important test against the USA.”
The Federation chief was also asked about Mario Balotelli, who was dropped from this game for breaking the code of ethics by picking up a ban for a reaction foul.
“Will Balotelli be at Euro 2012? I think so, but these are decisions for the Coach to make.”
