It has been confirmed that Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastien Frey will be out for at least five months after injuring his knee ligaments.
The 30-year-old Frenchman keeled over in training yesterday and was immediately sent for a scan after making complaints about his knee.
La Gazzetta dello Sport understands it has been recommended that Frey go under the knife and won't be back until April at the earliest.
The news is a crushing blow to Fiorentina who have suffered injury after injury this season, leaving Sinisa Mihajlovic with a vastly depleted squad.
It now looks increasingly likely that Riccardo Montolivo will join Frey in the treatment room having tried to put off ankle surgery.
He is expected to travel to Holland next week to see a specialist and will be out for a month and a half.
