Reports in Italy claim that just €1m separates Milan from agreeing a deal to sign Sampdoria winger Reto Ziegler in the January transfer window.
La Gazzetta dello Sport understands Milan have already offered €2.5m for the Switzerland international, but Sampdoria aren't satisfied.
Ziegler's existing contract is due to expire at the end of the season, so this is Sampdoria's last chance to cash in on the 24-year-old.
Sampdoria were initially holding out for €5m, but it would appear that their asking price is slightly lower.
A deal now looks likely to be done for €3.5m, but the relationship between the two clubs is uneasy.
Sampdoria need to find a replacement for Ziegler and also feel short-changed from the Antonio Cassano transfer.
As for Ziegler, Milan have offered a contract until 2014 worth €1.4m a season.
