Italy Coach Cesare Prandelli is “very upset” at Fiorentina's claims he pushed for a move to Juventus. “I actually rejected offers so I could stay.”
The increasingly bitter split between the tactician and his former club hit a new peak on Friday evening when Viola patron Diego Della Valle made new allegations.
“The Juventus owner called me to say that Prandelli was talking to Roberto Bettega about a move to Turin. I took it very badly,” said Della Valle.
“I publicly invited Prandelli to admit what was happening, but it was not a dismissal. I didn't let him make the mistake of going to Juve, as we re-routed him towards the Nazionale. He has been criticising us recently. I preferred the old Cesare more than this version.”
However, the Azzurri boss hit back with a statement for news agency ANSA.
“I am very upset at Diego Della Valle's comments. It's a shame that Andrea Della Valle did not comment on my supposed move to another club, as he knows the truth,” replied Prandelli.
“In some cases all it takes is one phone call to clarify matters, but instead some people ran to the media to face situations that should've been dealt with in house.
“I have always expressed my ideas with honesty, professionalism and clarity. I never put myself forward for other clubs; if anything I actually rejected offers so that I could stay with Fiorentina.”
