Fiorentina have confirmed they will bring forward Riccardo Montolivo's ankle operation, as the situation continues to deteriorate.
The captain has been playing with the aid of pain-killing injections since the World Cup in the June and regular treatment has not worked.
It was decided this week that Montolivo would go under the knife in Amsterdam to resolve the problem.
The operation will keep him out for around six weeks and had been set for November 15.
However, this afternoon Fiorentina announced on their official website that the specialist consultation with Professor Van Dijk has been brought forward to Monday November 8.
It is hoped that the surgical procedure can also be done earlier than originally expected.
