Sampdoria's derby defeat was the last straw and captain Angelo Palombo admits, “we just hope this season ends as soon as possible.”
The Blucerchiati finished fourth last year, but have already crashed out of the Champions League preliminary round, the Europa League, Coppa Italia and have slipped to 13th place in Serie A.
“Everyone has taken their own share of the responsibility,” said Palombo after a 1-0 defeat to local rivals Genoa last night.
“We're sorry for our fans and are so upset that it is difficult to talk about this. We just hope this season ends as soon as possible.
“There are only two things left for us now: avoiding relegation and winning the other derby.
“I hope this season can do us some good so that we can start the next in better shape.”
The club has put the entire squad into a pre-match training camp to prepare for this weekend's trip to Fiorentina.
