Roma playmaker Jeremy Menez has revealed how he came very close to joining Manchester United as a teenager.
The 23-year-old France international was tipped for the top at a young age and attracted interest from Europe's best teams.
Interviewed on Ma Chaine Sport, Menez said: "It's true. When I was 15, Sir Alex Ferguson wanted me at Manchester United.
"But then we decided together that it was better if I grew up at a less important club.
"In the future, if I do well, I could have another chance with United."
Menez then turned his attention back to Roma's season in Serie A.
"Our objective is to win the Scudetto.
"Claudio Ranieri respects me and I believe that I will be in top form in two months' time.
"Rome is a strange place. It's not easy to establish yourself here."
