Roma director Gian Paolo Montali hailed Vincenzo Montella, but said “we do not recognise ourselves” in Claudio Ranieri's critical description.
Last night the Giallorossi maintained their unbeaten run under Montella, beating Lecce 2-1 at the Stadio Via del Mare.
“The football world teaches us that anything can happen up to the final whistle. We're happy to have picked up seven points from the last three games, happy at the introduction of our new Coach and the performance of the side,” said director Montali.
“We have a great tactician at the helm who has already made his mark on the side and had a big impact on the players.”
Montella replaced Ranieri last week and the former boss criticised Roma for using him as a scapegoat, while not punishing players for obvious insubordination.
“We do not recognise ourselves in Ranieri's description, even if we understand he is upset. He just wanted to win for his hometown club. We don't want to stir up any more controversy, as we're still in this campaign and can achieve great things.”
Adriano is still in negotiations to have his contract terminated after repeatedly failing to attend appointments.
“We are in talks with his agent and are working on an intelligent solution. We won't forget he did get injured while on duty with us. There is a contract and we don't want to cut it off, but will try to find an intelligent solution.”
