Edy Reja is aiming to win Sunday's derby against Roma in an effort to get Lazio into the Champions League.
Claudio Ranieri always got the better of Reja, but it could be different now that he has resigned from Roma.
Speaking to Lazio Style Radio, Reja said: "It will be a week of great expectation. For us the derby is an important game, it's different from all the others and we want to get a result.
"It would be an important victory for us, not just for the objective of qualifying for the Champions League, but above all because we are talking about the derby.
"We want to do the maximum because it's a fundamental game for the fans and for our standing in the League table.
"Meanwhile we are very close to a place in next year's Europa League, which was our initial objective, but it's clear that we want to get into the Champions League.
"We'll need character, desire and heart, but from this point of view my lads have always impressed me," Reja concluded.
