Daniele De Rossi risks a lengthy suspension after he showed violent conduct towards Shakhtar Donetsk full-back Darijo Srna last night.
The Roma midfielder elbowed Srna, but referee Howard Webb and his assistants missed the incident.
La Gazzetta dello Sport understands De Rossi could be punished retrospectively and that a three or four match ban is on the cards.
Shakhtar had already complained about the 27-year-old actions in the first leg and asked that he receive a suspension for some pushing and shoving in the box.
Roma general manager Gian Paolo Montali managed to get De Rossi out of that mess, but he might not be so lucky this time.
