Real Madrid have rekindled their interest in Roma midfield general Daniele De Rossi, according to Marca.
The Spanish giants have a long-standing interest in the Italy international, but thus far De Rossi has resisted their overtures and stayed true to Roma.
De Rossi fits the profile of the prototypical Jose Mourinho midfielder and it's thought that he would form a partnership with Spain international Xabi Alonso.
Mourinho is apparently unconvinced by Sami Khedira and Lassana Diarra, not to mention Fernando Gago, and would like to bring more creativity, dynamism and heart to his midfield.
Real Madrid are also interested in Bastian Schweinsteiger and Cesc Fabregas, but it would appear De Rossi is their No 1 target.
The World Cup winner would cost €25m and Real Madrid hope to take advantage of the uncertainty surrounding Roma's ownership situation.
