Ferrara points to experience gap

Ciro Ferrara hailed his Under-21 side's fightback in Germany. “We had inexperienced kids against regular Bundesliga starters.”

The Azzurrini were trailing 2-0 in yesterday's friendly, but snatched a prestigious 2-2 draw.

“The way I see it, we should be particularly appreciative of the performance,” said Coach Ferrara.

“These are their only opportunities to prove themselves, as they don't get the chance in Serie A, so have to make their mark.

“Don't forget we had inexperienced kids against regular Bundesliga starters. The Germans had a squad of players with a total 250 Bundesliga appearances, most of them in the starting XI.

“Meanwhile, with my team we are fortunate if we reach 50 Serie A games of which only 20 as starters.”
