Thiago Silva does not agree that Leonardo was a traitor by crossing the Milan divide. “He wasn't the one to leave. It was the right decision.”
Many in the Rossoneri camp were shocked when their former teammate and Coach opted to join rivals Inter and will come face to face for the first time in tonight's derby.
“I have nothing against him and I think it was the right decision to accept Inter's offer,” said fellow Brazilian Thiago Silva.
“He is still at the start of his career and this means getting the best possible curriculum. I was happy for Leonardo.
“After all, he wasn't the one who wanted to walk away, but rather things happened within the club that he didn't like.
“A few months later, he received an offer from a rival side. There's no reason to stay out of work when a once in a lifetime opportunity comes along.”
Leonardo had been at Milan for 13 years as player, talent scout and Coach, but left at the end of the season when President Silvio Berlusconi repeatedly criticised his tactics.
The fans had been on his side in this row, but that all changed when Leo took over at rivals Inter.
“He has done so much for Milan, but I am sure there will be some jeers against him,” conceded Thiago Silva.
“I also know he'll stay calm and will not respond. At the end of the day, he owes a lot to Milan and Milan owe a lot to him.”
