Careca has told Napoli to believe that they can win the Scudetto this season and emulate the team he played in, which triumphed in 1990.
Napoli currently lie three points behind Milan with seven games of the campaign still remaining and have the look of genuine title contenders.
Interviewed by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Careca said: "Napoli must fight until the last second because the Scudetto is in reach."
Asked to compare the current Napoli side with the 1990 vintage, he said: "There is a substantial difference.
"We had three true strikers. Marek Hamsik, for example, is not a striker. He has talent, but not the characteristics of a striker.
"Instead, Ezequiel Lavezzi should try to score with greater insistence. The fact that he often doesn't try to do so penalises him a lot.
"Edinson Cavani is impressive for his ability to make the net bulge. He marries technique with speed of execution.
"To tell the truth he disappointed me in the first half against Lazio. Then there was a transformation with a hat-trick. Now he must think about becoming Capocannoniere."
