Lazio will make a sensational bid to bring former Juventus playmaker Diego back to Serie A if they qualify for next year's Champions League.
The 26-year-old Brazilian was sold by Juventus after just one season and felt particularly bitter about his treatment at the hands of the club's new management.
Since joining Wolfsburg things haven't improved for the richly talented Diego. His side are at risk of relegation from the Bundesliga and have been through three managers this season.
Diego's relationship with the board has also taken a turn for the worse after he disobeyed team orders by taking a penalty promised to his teammate, which he then missed.
La Gazzetta dello Sport understands Lazio plan to bid between €12m and €13m for Diego if they secure a place in the Champions League.
Wolfsburg paid €15m for the former Werder Bremen star last summer and Lazio's prospective offer wouldn't represent a big loss on their original investment.
