Mark Van Bommel has followed Zlatan Ibrahimovic's lead in saying that Milan's destiny is in their hands this season.
The Rossoneri took a big step towards the Scudetto on Saturday with a stunning 3-0 win against rivals Inter in the Derby della Madonnina.
Milan now have a three-point lead at the top of Serie A with seven games of the season remaining.
Interviewed by Il Corriere dello Sport, Van Bommel said: "It only depends on us. We are top. We must only think about winning matches without worrying about what our direct rivals are doing.
"I think Milan are having a great season. There are still seven games left and many points in play. We have to keep playing with the enthusiasm that we have because the strength of a great team is represented by the solidity of the group.
"I have always considered Milan to be a great team. Ever since I arrived at Milanello I am sure that they are an exceptional club."
