Di Michele: Lecce want Serie A

Lecce striker Davide Di Michele thinks Sunday's 2-1 win against Sampdoria, their second in a row, shows his side want to survive this season.

The Salentini have climbed out of the relegation zone and now have a three-point cushion on Serie A's other struggling sides.

Di Michele got the opener at Marassi before half time then Ruben Olivera doubled Lecce's lead after 66 minutes.

Massimo Maccarone pulled one back for the home side, setting up a nervy finish, but Lecce managed to hold on.

"Closing the first half in the lead gave us a big hand and contributed to cutting the legs off our opponents," Di Michele said.

"Then after the break our second goal arrived at the right moment. It's just a shame we didn't convert other opportunities to kill the game off and avoid suffering at the end.

"It's a result that gives us added strength and rewards our attitude.

"The League table is very tight. Anything can happen. It's too early to understand who is going down. What counts is that Lecce manages to survive."
