Gigi De Canio was astonished by Lecce's hunger as they fought back for a 3-3 draw with the last kick of the game.
“In other matches we had lost points in the final minutes, so pouring forward was a risky strategy,” he said of the thriller with Cagliari.
“We ran a big risk, but our capability was the key to avoid defeat in this match.”
The Salentini were trailing 3-1 on home turf at the 87th minute, but scored twice late on to snatch a point.
“The team had lost all confidence when 3-1 down, especially as Cagliari are a good side who play quality football and had no pressure.
“We suffered under the dynamism of Andrea Lazzari and Andrea Cossu, but we did not give in and were rewarded for our efforts.”
