Montella: Talent is not enough at Roma

Vincenzo Montella has warned his Roma players that talent alone is not enough to succeed in football.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday's Coppa Italia semi-final against Inter, he attempted to re-focus his players following their 3-2 defeat to Palermo in Serie A.

"The Coppa Italia, both for Roma and Inter, is almost the last realisable objective available to us this season," Montella explained.

"Tomorrow evening two wounded teams will face each other and for this season they will need big motivation. The team that has the greater personality and temperament will win.

"The difference will be made by personality, not by individual acts.

"Who wears the Roma shirt shouldn't only have talent but also temperament and character to react to situations like those that have happened to us in this period."

Asked about reports of Mirko Vucinic and Jeremy Menez leaving Roma, he said: "If there is a player who wants to leave, he must do well on the pitch and show that he deserves a better club than Roma. And perhaps not being loved can be a motivation to give more.

"If he wants, a player can find motivation in every game."
