Andrea Barzagli believes Juventus can still challenge for Europe, even though seventh might not be enough. “We must climb the table.”
If Palermo reach the Coppa Italia Final, then they will have qualification to the Europa League, as the other contenders – Inter, Roma and Milan – already look to be heading for Europe.
This means only fifth and sixth in Serie A go into the Europa League. Juventus are currently in seventh place.
“Palermo's 2-2 draw at Milan in the first leg is a good result for them and they've got a great chance of reaching the Final,” said defender Barzagli.
“We must climb the table and qualify for Europe with our own merits, not by looking at the results of other sides.
“It is only normal that the fans remember a dominant Juve in Italy and Europe. In recent years there have been numerous difficulties and many things have changed.
“Now we are trying to construct a competitive squad and the supporters have to believe.”
Barzagli joined from Wolfsburg during the January transfer window and is getting regular games during Giorgio Chiellini's injury.
“I arrived with a great desire to play in Italy again. I already knew Gigi Del Neri and some of my teammates, so it was easy to settle in.”
