Giampaolo Pazzini analyses Inter's campaign and where it all went wrong. “Those two games ruined our season.”
The striker joined from Sampdoria during the January transfer window, when the team looked to be out of the title race already.
“We put so much effort into clawing our way back into the race and as a group worked so hard, but to do it we would've had to win every game,” Pazzini told Inter Channel.
“Our form dipped during the decisive moment of the season and we were unable to complete the turnaround.”
The Nerazzurri lost sight of the Scudetto when losing the head-to-head with Milan 3-0 and subsequently falling to Parma. In the same period, they also crashed out of the Champions League quarter-finals.
“You could already see against Lecce that, despite the fact we got the three points, we were clearly tired.
“We didn't fall apart completed, but the games against Milan and Schalke 04 ruined our season.
“Having said that, if you look at the numbers then you'll realise we lost the Scudetto in the first half of the season. In the space of eight or nine games we picked up just 10 points from the 24-27 available.”
Not only was Pazzini not part of the squad at that stage, but Rafa Benitez was still in charge, as Leonardo took over on Christmas Eve.
