Vincenzo Montella does not believe failure to reach the Coppa Italia Final will damage his chances of staying on the Roma bench next year.
Inter won the first leg 1-0 at the Olimpico with a Dejan Stankovic goal and the second encounter is at San Siro on Wednesday evening.
“It is certainly a difficult challenge, both for the first leg result and the many players we are missing for this match, but we want to give it our all anyway,” said the Coach.
Francesco Totti and Rodrigo Taddei are suspended for tomorrow's game, while Philippe Mexes and Matteo Brighi are injured. However, Daniele De Rossi and Simone Perrotta are available, as their bans only apply to Serie A.
Montella was drafted in when Claudio Ranieri resigned and has been fairly successful, but he rejected the suggestion a Coppa Italia success would see off other candidates for the job.
“I don't think it would make that much of a difference. The work of a Coach is evaluated through many elements and not just a victory.
“As for our Serie A form, much has been said about the lads, but in my view we've had a good run since I took over. We wiped out a nine-point gap from Lazio and seven from Udinese.
“I think by fighting to the very end for both the Coppa Italia and Champions League qualification we can give some meaning to our season.
“Fourth place is still a viable objective and we have got to push all the way.”
