Leonardo targets Scudetto 2012

Inter boss Leonardo has his eyes on winning the Scudetto next season after finishing third last term and second this.

The former Milan boss made sure that his Nerazzurri ended the campaign as runners-up, to his ex-club, thanks to their 1-1 draw at Napoli last night.

"Challenges are the very essence of life and I'm ready for them," he stated. "Now I want to keep on improving as a Coach.

"I tend to take a positive view of every experience. I feel privileged considering the life I have lived and can still live, both as a sportsman and a human being.

"Finishing second in the table is very important. Even if everyone would have preferred it if we had come first, we've accomplished our mission tonight.

"This has been quite a marathon, starting from 6 January and finally, in the last few weeks, we have been able to run the training sessions as we wanted. The results are positive."

Leonardo, who replaced Rafael Benitez on Christmas Eve, was then asked whether the campaign held any regrets.

"The fact that the derby was played two weeks after 15 players had been away on international duty," he responded. "I'd only cancel those four days between the derby and the Schalke match."

Inter, who could still end the season with the Coppa Italia, are now expected to freshen things up on the transfer market.

"This team is coming to the end of a complicated season which was split in two, but the squad is united," Leonardo continued.

"I don't think there will be much to change because the team is full of resources. Neither do I think we need to revolutionise everything – the foundations are here.

"I consider the original squad the confirmation of a solid base and the surprises are the four players who arrived in January and who all contributed greatly to the season."
