Lazio have officially terminated the contract of midfielder Mourad Meghni by mutual consent.

The 25-year-old had been at the Stadio Olimpico since 2007 and notched up 48 appearances in four seasons.

Meghni had arrived in Serie A for Bologna with the nickname ‘Petit Zizou' for his apparent similarity to Zinedine Zidane.

He never quite delivered and had a recurring knee ligament problem that required surgery.

The news of the contract termination was confirmed on the official Lazio website this evening.

It is reported that Meghni has a deal in place to join Umm Salal in Qatar.
