Sannino set for Serie A debut

Siena tactician Giuseppe Sannino will make his Serie A debut aged 54. “I did wonder why now, but then decided it was best not to ask questions.”

The Coach was appointed to replace Antonio Conte after promotion and it represents a huge step forward in his career.

He started senior management in 1996 and has so far been in charge of the likes of Biellese, Sudtirol, Sangiovannese, Cosenza, Pergocrema and Varese.

“I did wonder why now, but couldn't find an answer and then decided it was best not to ask questions,” he told Tuttosport.

“I had thought a big offer would come along when I won the Serie C2 tournament with Pergocrema in 2008, but instead found myself back in the same division with Varese.

“Maybe it's best to focus only on what happens on the field. Thanks to a group of lads who gave their all, my chance arrived too.”

Varese were knocked out of the Serie B promotion play-offs this season.
