Rossi: 'No Inter or Fiorentina contact'

Delio Rossi has been suggested for the Inter and Fiorentina jobs, but insists “they didn't contact me. Another club did, but I'm not right for them.”

The Coach is a free agent after his contract with Palermo expired and has been heavily linked with the job left vacant by Leonardo.

“If I wanted to work, then I'd have a position,” he told Radio Manà Manà. “The problem is I didn't feel I was the right person to carry on that project. If I take a job just to be in work, then I may as well stay at home. I need that spark and so far I haven't felt it.

“I can say that I have not been contacted by Inter or Fiorentina. It's confusing reading all those names associated with the Nerazzurri, though, as they are all so different.

“Presidents think that if they sign Luis Van Gaal then it's the same thing as bringing in Rossi. I do not agree. A President has to map out a strategy, find the right person who shares that view of the project and put them in a position to achieve that.

“This explains why we are continually changing management in Italy, whereas overseas there are people who can spend 15 or 20 years on the same bench.

“In general in Serie A there is the lack of a clear project that is shared. A Coach is part of the project, if there is one.”

Rossi had also been linked with the Roma post before Luis Enrique came in.

“That is partially true,” said the former Lazio Coach. “At this moment Roma are a new project and need a tactician with no precedents. They made a courageous and unusual decision in picking Luis Enrique.”

He also looked back over his tempestuous rapport with Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini, who fired and re-hired him before they parted company this month.

“I left a squad that I knew well and showed me great affection. The President knew the moment he recalled me that, whatever happened, I would not be in charge of Palermo next season. It wouldn't have been right to begin again without letting him know my intentions.”
