Santos right-back Jonathan is close to joining Inter and admits he is ready to be “the heir to Douglas Maicon.”
There are strong reports of a €5.5m deal in place to sign the 23-year-old in a matter of days.
“Many people tell me I am the heir to Maicon, as I am similar in terms of strength and pace,” he told the Gazzetta dello Sport.
“We don't know each other really, as we are from different generations. We never played together at Cruzeiro, but I did train alongside him in a few games between ranks when I was in the youth team.
“I have not signed anything yet and don't want problems with Santos, so I am leaving it all in the hands of my agent.”
This is not the first time that Jonathan has been linked with a Serie A switch.
“I read that last year Milan sent scouts to see me play, but they couldn't buy me because of the limit on non-EU players.”
That issue has now been resolved, as his wife Luana has an Italian passport thanks to her family history.
