Alessandro Matri admits he is “pleased” to be linked with a January Milan move, as the club considers eight out of contract stars.
The Cagliari hitman is the firm favourite to be brought in mid-season after Pippo Inzaghi was ruled out for six months by knee ligament surgery.
“I can't help but be pleased to have the big clubs like Milan paying attention to me,” he told the Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I have a good rapport with Massimiliano Allegri and we met up in Milan recently. I am concentrated on Cagliari and hope to give my contribution so we can break away from the foot of the table.”
Former Cagliari Coach Allegri would love to be reunited with Matri, who'd give the Rossoneri a new option in attack.
The other alternative for a January reinforcement is Alberto Paloschi, who is already co-owned by Milan and Parma.
Vice-President Adriano Galliani has a lot on his plate, as there are eight stars who will be out of contract in the summer.
They are Inzaghi, Ronaldinho, Alessandro Nesta, Andrea Pirlo, Clarence Seedorf, Massimo Ambrosini, Marek Jankulovski and Flavio Roma.
Of that list, Jankulovski and Roma are expected to walk away, while the others will be offered renewals.
The sticking point is with Ronaldinho, who will not be given the same €7.5m per season wages.
With the Brazilian spending most of this season on the bench, a January move to cash in is not out of the question.
