Roberto Donadoni has expressed his desire to keep Alessandro Matri at Cagliari amid interest from Milan.
The 26-year-old striker, who scored his eighth goal of the campaign against Lecce on Sunday, is being hotly tipped with a move back to San Siro where he started his career.
Speaking to Rai Sport, Donadoni said: "We must hold him tight. He is a striker with great prospects just like Acquafresca, Nene and Ragatzu.
"Not being in the Italy squad was a little unjust for him.
"The measure by which Matri's future will be decided is based on this season at Cagliari after which he could find his definitive consecration."
Matri has also been frequently linked with Fiorentina, Napoli and Juventus who are all looking to reinforce up front.
