De Canio revokes Lecce resignation

Gigi De Canio has confirmed he is still the Coach at Lecce after a meeting to discuss his offer of resignation.

The tactician decided to resign after Sunday afternoon's 3-2 loss at Cagliari, but President Pierandrea Semeraro opted to wait until today before a final verdict.

“Last night we cleared the air, talked it over and just as after the Cagliari game I saw the respect, admiration and all the rest that is important in a rapport with President and club,” revealed De Canio.

“I also had a talk with the players and with all this in place I decided we could continue this adventure, which we started together over a year and a half ago.

“There was a debate with the President and once we clarified this issue, we decided to forget what happened at Cagliari.”

The Salentini are slipping down the standings primarily due to their awful away record of one point in eight games. On their travels, Lecce have scored four goals and conceded 22.

“I don't think the problem with the away matches is the way we approach the encounter, as during the week the squad seems just as concentrated as ever.

“What does happen, though, is that in difficult moments the team loses its confidence. If we can get a clean sheet and positive result away from home, then that could help boost our self-esteem.”
