Adrian Mutu will require knee surgery again after damaging ligaments against Debrecen, ruling the Fiorentina star out for a month.
The Romanian has been struggling with niggling fitness problems all season and already went under the knife in April for a left knee injury.
This time he has “suffered a lesion in the meniscus ligament of the right knee, the opposite to that which was operated on,” revealed the club website.
Mutu is set to undergo the operation in the next few days and will be out of action for around a month, missing crucial Champions League ties with Lyon and Liverpool.
Fiorentina also lost Alessandro Gamberini during the 5-2 win over Debrecen last night and he has been diagnosed with a thigh strain.
The central defender should be kept in the stands for around three weeks.
Stevan Jovetic is proceeding through physiotherapy for a bruised metatarsal, while Sebastien Frey is on the road to recovery after spraining a finger.
