Sampdoria have suggested that a deal for Alex Manninger of Juventus is almost complete.
The Serie B club need a new 'keeper after Gianluca Curci returned to Roma and the Austrian has been selected.
"There are just a few details to sort out for Manninger," Doria Vice-President Edoardo Garrone noted. "We need a new goalkeeper and some new faces in defence."
Manninger will leave Turin given that Gigi Buffon and Marco Storari are ahead of him in the pecking order.
Meanwhile, Garrone confirmed Fiorentina's reported interest in captain Angelo Palombo.
"Fiorentina have asked us for him, but he wants to get back into Serie A with Sampdoria and we'll allow him to do that," the official added.
"Nevertheless, we do need to trim our squad in terms of midfielders. We have a Serie A squad, we now need a Serie B mentality."
