Stefano Mauri has revealed that he decided to stay at Lazio after holding talks with President Claudio Lotito.
The Italian international was being linked with a move away from Rome, with Zenit apparently ready to make him an offer.
However, Mauri has today told Sky Sport Italia that he never really considered a Stadio Olimpico exit this summer.
"I heard about the interest of other clubs in me," explained the former Udinese attacking midfielder.
"Nevertheless, I spoke with Lotito and he told me that he didn't want me to leave. I'm happy in the city and I don't see why I should go anywhere else."
Mauri, who has a frosty relationship with a section of the home support, is the club's vice-captain behind Tommaso Rocchi.
