Julio Cesar is hopeful that the season will improve after Inter lost the Italian Super Cup Final to Milan on Saturday.
The Nerazzurri took the lead in Beijing, but their city rivals hit back to take home a 2-1 victory in China.
"The new season has started and, unfortunately, it has begun badly with a defeat to Milan," the goalkeeper told FCInterNews.it.
"However, I'm hopeful that I'll be able to have a good campaign also in order to stay in contention for a Brazil place."
The custodian is currently on international duty as Brazil prepare to play Germany in their first game since their Copa America failure.
"Unfortunately we didn't win the title, but there was something positive to come out of it," he continued.
"The Copa America was of use to boss Mano Menezes as it gave him the opportunity to get to know the players."
