Cesena striker Adrian Mutu has been told that his career with the Romanian national side is over. "He's been banned for life."
Mutu and West Brom defender Gabriel Tamas will no longer be considered for selection after allegedly leaving the training camp on Monday without authorisation to do so.
Reports suggest that the two men spent the evening drinking.
"Mutu and Tamas have been expelled from the national team for life," Romania Coach Victor Piturca noted.
"It's a pity, but rules are strict and they should have known it."
Mutu, who has had a colourful career on and off the pitch, has scored 32 goals in 70 caps for his country.
The forward only left Fiorentina for the Seahorses this summer.
