With Samuel Eto'o about to join Anzhi for €40m, Spanish sources say Diego Forlan will replace him at Inter.
The Cameroon international and his club have confirmed negotiations with the Russian side for a big money move that could net him €15m per season wages.
Likely candidates to fill the gap include Napoli's Ezequiel Lavezzi and Manchester City man Carlos Tevez.
However, Spanish newspaper Marca suggests Atletico Madrid hitman Forlan is the primary target.
The Uruguayan international is under contract for another two years in Madrid and has recently turned down numerous offers.
It's claimed Forlan rejected moves to Turkey, Russia, Brazil and Dubai, but would leap at the chance of playing in the Champions League with Inter.
