Palermo Coach Stefano Pioli raged at the media for suggesting he is under President Maurizio Zamparini's thumb. “I make the decisions!”
The Coach was the hot favourite to be the first boss sacked this season considering their preliminary round Europa League exit, but has already been beaten by Cagliari's Roberto Donadoni.
“The disappointment is transforming into hard work, dedication and spirit of sacrifice. We are aware that we can do so much more than we've shown so far,” declared Pioli in a Press conference.
“From August 28 a new path will begin for us and we hope it will be as positive as possible.”
President Zamparini is notoriously hands-on in his approach and regularly criticises his tacticians in public.
“I do not field players on the orders of the club. I already clarified this with my lads and want to do it in public, too. I work freely based on my own work.
“My decisions do not depend on external factors. I did not field Antonio Nocerino against Thun because of tactical issues, not any contract dispute.”
Javier Pastore and Salvatore Sirigu were sold, so Pioli does admit he's not entirely happy with the transfer strategy.
“Obviously I would've preferred the squad to be completed as quickly as possible. I have the utmost faith in the club, as they know what Palermo need.
“It is already positive that we have brought in Matias Silvestre, who is a tough defender with character. He's what we needed.”
