Inter boss Gian Piero Gasperini was relatively satisfied after his side beat Juventus and Milan to the Trofeo TIM.
The Nerazzurri won the three-team tournament at Bari's San Nicola last night after defeating Juve on penalties and beating Milan 1-0 in the 45-minute matches.
In the other tie, a late Alessandro Matri goal ensured a 2-1 victory for Juventus against the Rossoneri.
"They were the first two micro games played with the whole squad back together and we knew it would be hard for them to gel immediately," the man who replaced Leonardo in the summer noted.
"However, over the two matches I saw good things sometimes great things and other things we still have to work on.
"In fact, many things are still to be done, but that's a good thing, I think, because it means we have a lot of room for improvement."
Last night's triumph was Inter's seventh in the annual pre-season tournament between the three giants.
"This is the first positive step," continued the former Genoa boss. "There are still a few days before the beginning of the season and still a lot of work to be done, but time is on our side.
"We need to try things, make mistakes and then try again.
"We need to understand a bit of those situations that can occur during a match and, therefore, mistakes can be useful at this point in time."
